Christmas Lights switch on

For many people, the festive season becomes real when the Christmas Lights are switched on and this takes place on Sunday the 27th of November. The event takes place on Chelmsford High Street and the cast of the pantomime Sleeping Beauty will be on hand to add some excitement and glamour to this special occasion.

The event starts at midday and a fireworks display will take place at 4.45pm.

Events at Chelmsford Cathedral

For many people, Christmas is a spiritual time of year and there are many events taking place at Chelmsford Cathedral. On Sunday 27th of November, The Advent Procession takes place which is a celebration which combines music and spiritual words to set the tone for the following month.

The Cathedral Choirs Christmas Concert takes place on Saturday the 10th of December at 7pm. This is an event that welcomes participation from the audience so if you enjoy carols and want to sing along with some of your favourite songs, this is an ideal opportunity to do so. There will also be carol events on Friday the 16th and 23rd of December.

The lighting of the Christmas tree takes place on Sunday 18th of December at 6.30pm. There is also a range of events taking place on the 24th and 25th of December, so if you want to enjoy the spiritual and religious side of Christmas in Chelmsford, there are plenty of opportunities to do so.

Meet Santa

For children, one of the most exciting events in the run up to Christmas is having the chance to meet with Santa. There are a number of opportunities for youngsters and families to meet the main man in Chelmsford this festive period.

On Saturday 17th of December, Santa Claus will be present at Essex Police Museum while you can find him at the Winter Wonderland at Marsh Farm on various dates in the run-up to the big day. Santa Claus can also be found at the Santa In Love event at the Cramphorn Theatre which takes place on various dates throughout December.

Christmas at Chelmsford Racecourse

If you enjoy horse racing but felt that it would benefit from a festive makeover, you’ll find the Christmas meetings at the Chelmsford Racecourse in the week before Christmas are well worth checking out. There are special races taking place on Thursday 15th December, Monday 19th December and Thursday 22nd December, providing plenty of opportunities to enjoy these races at this festive time of year.

Panto

Panto is the quintessential Christmas activity for many people and there are two main options to choose from in Chelmsford this year. Sleeping Beauty is on at Hylands House while Jack and the Beanstalk is on at Chelmsford City Theatres. There is also a telling of A Christmas Carol, the Dickens classic on Monday 19th December at the Chelmsford City Theatres, Cramphorn venue.
