Chelmsford’s Free Tree Giveaway Returns 2026

Chelmsford City Council’s beloved free tree giveaway is back, offering 1,200 trees to residents from 5 October to 5 November 2026. This initiative, part of the Love Your Chelmsford Space to Thrive campaign, aims to enhance local wildlife habitats and combat climate change, one tree at a time.

Residents can choose from four splendid species: the majestic Scots Pine, the charming Wild Cherry, the rare Wild Service Tree, and the vibrant Spindle. Each tree, though starting as a young sapling, holds the promise of becoming a vital part of Chelmsford’s ecosystem, supporting countless birds, insects, and other wildlife.

The giveaway operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with one tree per household. Whether you have a sprawling garden or a cosy courtyard, there’s a tree to fit every space. The Scots Pine, with its potential to live for centuries, can even be potted to manage its growth. Meanwhile, the Wild Cherry offers year-round beauty, and the Wild Service Tree and Spindle add unique character and ecological value.

Tree collection is scheduled at three locations: Compass Gardens Park on 26 November, Melbourne Park on 27 November, and Bell Meadow Park on 28 November. Council park team members will be available to offer planting and care advice.

Past giveaways have seen trees snapped up quickly, so early application is advised. Visit the Love Your Chelmsford website to secure your tree and follow their social media for updates and guidance.

By planting a tree, you’re not just enhancing your garden; you’re contributing to a greener, healthier Chelmsford for generations to come. And if you’re considering a move to or within this vibrant community, remember that we at Bond Residential are here to help you find your perfect home.
