Two Chelmsford brothers, Leo and Henry Walsh, have recently completed a remarkable 40-mile walk from Little Baddow to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. This inspiring journey was not just a test of endurance but a heartfelt gesture to raise funds for Epilepsy Action and Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. The brothers, students at New Hall School, managed to raise over £14,000, a testament to their determination and the community’s support.
The motivation behind this impressive feat was deeply personal. Leo, a Year 8 student, was diagnosed with epilepsy following a major seizure caused by a brain tumour in December 2024. After months of specialised care and a successful surgery to remove the tumour, Leo embarked on this challenge to give back to the organisations that played a crucial role in his recovery.
Epilepsy, affecting around 1% of the UK population, is a condition that causes frequent seizures. The funds raised by the Walsh family aim to support children who require similar life-changing care and treatment. Leo’s mother, Lucy Walsh, expressed her gratitude, highlighting the emotional significance of the walk and celebrating Leo’s incredible recovery journey.
Completing this walk was not only a physical achievement but also a celebration of Leo’s resilience and the family’s journey over the past 18 months. Lucy hopes the funds raised will enhance understanding of epilepsy and support other families facing similar challenges.
