St John Payne Catholic School in Chelmsford has been honoured with the CAFOD LiveSimply Award, celebrating its commitment to putting faith into action. This prestigious accolade acknowledges Catholic communities that strive to live sustainably, stand in solidarity with their global family, and care for our common home. The Bishops of England and Wales have long encouraged schools to pursue this award as a means of safeguarding the world entrusted to us.
At St John Payne, students from Years 7 to 13 have embraced nine faith-based actions, weaving them into the fabric of school life. These initiatives offer students the chance to actively live out their faith. The school’s inspiring efforts include fundraising, supporting CAFOD World Gifts, hosting an intergenerational afternoon tea, and organising a Sanctity of Life cross-curricular day. Additionally, the school has championed recycling drives, participated in the CAFOD Cancel the Debt campaign, and even had students represent the school at the Houses of Parliament. One of the most impactful events was the Caritas Diocese of Brentwood Sleep Out, raising awareness and funds for the homeless.
This award highlights the dedication of St John Payne Catholic School to nurturing a community that values sustainability, compassion, and social justice. It serves as an inspiring example for other schools in Chelmsford and beyond, showcasing how faith can be a powerful force for positive change.
