Essex residents, prepare to be dazzled! Our very own Chelmsford and Colchester have been named top spots to witness the awe-inspiring Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis. This stunning natural display, caused by geomagnetic storms on the sun's surface, has lit up our skies, and new research by Japan-101 has revealed where you can best catch a glimpse.
The study evaluated 100 UK towns and cities, scoring them based on artificial brightness, air pollution, and cloud cover. Chelmsford shone brightly, securing third place with an impressive score of 72.9 out of 100. Not far behind, Colchester took fifth place with a score of 71.3. Both cities scored more than 20% above the natural average, making them prime locations for this celestial spectacle.
But the excitement doesn't stop there! Harlow, with its low artificial brightness, also made the top 10, securing the tenth spot with a score of 67.4. It's official: Essex is a beacon for Northern Lights enthusiasts!
Nozomi Kato from Japan-101 highlights that Brits often travel to far-off destinations like Iceland or Norway to see the Aurora Borealis. However, with these findings, you can enjoy this magical phenomenon right here at home. So, grab a warm drink, bundle up, and head outside for a chance to witness the skies dance in vibrant colours.
Whether you're a seasoned stargazer or a first-time observer, Essex offers the perfect backdrop for this natural wonder. And if you're considering making Essex your home, remember that we at Bond Residential are here to help you find the perfect spot to enjoy such celestial events. Happy sky-watching!
