Great Baddow's beloved play area has undergone a fantastic transformation, delighting local children and families with its fresh, exciting features. Officially opened by the mayor of Chelmsford, Councillor Jannetta Sosin, this revamped space promises endless fun and accessibility for all.
In a community-driven effort, local residents cast 229 votes in an online consultation to choose the play area's final design. The feedback was clear: relocate the site closer to New Road's entrance for easier access. The new pathway ensures everyone can enjoy this vibrant space with ease.
The play area now spans 1148sqm and boasts a springy bonded mulch surface made from recycled tyres, enhancing safety and usability in various weather conditions. With a woodland theme, the modern play equipment is cleverly divided into two zones: one for infants aged 2-6 and another for juniors aged 7-12. These zones feature balance bridges and other elements designed to challenge and build confidence in young adventurers.
Inclusivity is at the heart of the design, offering interactive play options suitable for children of varying abilities. The park also features a pump track and half basketball area, ensuring there's something for everyone.
Councillor Rose Moore, Cabinet Member for a Greener Chelmsford, praised the collaborative effort, saying, "The new play area at Baddow Hall Park is a great example of how working together in partnership can transform a community space. Listening to residents and working with the parish council has resulted in a fantastic new play area which benefits from being much easier to reach and better equipped so everyone can enjoy the park."
As the new play area welcomes visitors, the old site's transformation into a flower meadow is underway, with tree planting scheduled for autumn. This vibrant community space is a testament to the power of collaboration and thoughtful design.
